Top Harrisonburg VA Instagrammable Places

Most Instagrammable Spots in Harrisonburg VA | The Common Traveler | image: LOVEwork sign

1. LOVEwork

Certainly the most Instagrammable spot in Harrisonburg VA, and easily accessible. Those chasing the Love signs in Virginia should make sure they include this one on their list. The LOVE sign is on a grassy spot behind the Arts Council of the Valley office. It faces the parking lot next to the Turner Pavilion, Harrisonburg’s year-round farmer’s market spot. Behind it is the Language of Love sculpture, a blue wooden wave installation.

Not only is the LOVE sculpture pretty, it is easy to access any time of the day or night, and there is plenty of parking nearby.

2. LOVEwork at Oasis

Virginia is for lovers, so of course, Harrisonburg has more than one Love sign perfect for a selfie! This beautiful Love mosaic was created by artists at Oasis Fine Art & Craft. The tiles in the mosaic feature the word love in different native languages of students at Harrisonburg High School.

3. The Quad at JMU

Harrisonburg is home to James Madison University and, in my opinion, one of the prettiest college campuses I’ve visited. Join the rest of the student body (even if you’re way beyond college age!) and pose on the Quad.

The Quad is an open area that serves as the heartbeat of JMU. Manicured lawns serve as the perfect backdrop to your photos. Many people take photos of the stairs leading up to the Quad but Harrison Hall makes a beautiful backdrop.

Address:  800 S. Main Street
Hours: 24/7

4. White Oak Lavender and Purple WOLF Vineyard

The perfect combination of Instagram-worthy spots – a lavender field and a vineyard in one! Though the lavender was not in bloom when I visited White Oak Lavender and Purple WOLF Vineyard, the plants still created an exciting photo background.

Vineyards also lend themselves to Instagrammable photos since wineries offering wine flights create attractive photos. Just remember that this is a family-friendly destination, which can sometimes be crowded!

Address:  2644 Cross Keys Road
Hours: 10 am to 6 pm (until 5 pm in winter)

5. Sage Bird Ciderworks

Finding an indoor spot that Insta-worthy was easy in Harrisonburg, VA. But one of my favorites was a room inside Sage Bird Ciderworks. As you enter and to your right, there is a room with a leather couch and some chairs. Bookshelves containing a lending library and string lights make this a cozy corner. This is an adorable Instagrammable spot!

Address:  325 N. Liberty Street

6. Next to One of the Doors

The Arts Council of the Valley and The Arc of Harrisonburg and Rockingham commissioned 20 artists to create art using doors as the canvas. The doors celebrate inclusion and are displayed throughout downtown Harrisonburg.

The doors were originally meant to be on display through September 2023 but they were still there in October. They may come down during the winter to protect them but hopefully they’ll be back on display in 2024!

Address:  So many different spots in town, particularly along S. Main Street

7. Edith J. Carrier Arboretum

What’s a more natural photo-worthy spot than a beautiful garden? An amazing arboretum! Part of the JMU campus, the Arboretum offers many Instagrammable spots in Harrisonburg.

Pick your backdrop (in season) – whether a wildflower field, an azalea garden, or using one of the ponds or bridges to pose on or next to. I saw a few families taking their holiday photos when I visited.

8. Harrisonburg Murals

So many murals to pick from in Harrisonburg! From murals on walls outside buildings to murals inside businesses (almost every restaurant), you’ll find a mural that calls to you!

Almost every coffee shop and restaurant has a mural. Many had a lot of colors, which would be great if I had someone to help me take photos. I liked this subtle black-and-white mural inside Mashita.

Address:  Everywhere downtown!
Hours: 24/7 (except for those inside businesses!)

9. Heritage Bakery & Café

Located inside the Harrisonburg Visitor’s Center, the Heritage Bakery & Café is a sweet little spot that not only serves delicious treats but serves as a great backdrop to your Instagram photos.

Photos can be taken inside or outside. My personal preference is to opt for a table with the historic wallpaper and pose holding one of the beautiful tea cups. I didn’t do it justice, but hopefully, I’ve inspired you to improve on my photo!

Address: 212 S. Main Street
Hours: Monday through Saturday, 8 am to 2 pm

10. Waterfall Wall at Denton Park

Tucked between two buildings is this quiet respite just off Main Street. Grab a coffee and sit at one of the outdoor tables. But the best Instagrammable photo is just a shot with the waterfall wall as a backdrop.
