Let’s face it: if you’re like me, one of the best parts of traveling is bringing back a memento of your trip. Sometimes, the souvenir is for my friends or family; other times, the souvenir is for me. I love finding a little something that I can use again and again. If you’re visiting the beautiful island of Bermuda, you’ll want to bring something home. Here are the best Bermuda souvenirs to bring back:
Best Bermuda Souvenirs
Pink Sand
Hold on a minute – I’m not suggesting you fill a baggy with some beautiful pink sand from your visit. That is illegal and will get your baggy confiscated. Instead, look for already-made pink sand souvenirs.
Where to Buy: You’ll find these at gift shops, and purchasing them won’t get you in trouble!
Bermuda Shorts
The quintessential Bermuda souvenir has to be a pair of the famous Bermuda shorts. As a larger-sized traveler, I’m not confident purchasing clothing items while traveling. But think about it, how cool would it be to tell your friends and family that you purchased those cool Bermuda shorts in Bermuda?
Where to Buy: TABS (The Authentic Bermuda Shorts) in Hamilton.
Rum
If you’re visiting Bermuda, grab a bottle of Gosling’s Black Seal Rum. You’ll be able to show off your new cocktail skills when you get back home, from making Dark ‘n Stormy or Bermuda’s famous Rum Swizzles.
Where to Buy: At the Gosling Store in Hamilton (across the street from the ferry).
Ginger Beer
One of the things that I like to bring back is a soft drink (or chocolate or other snack). Bermuda’s unique soft drink is ginger beer. Pair the ginger beer with your dark rum to make a Dark and Stormy!
Where to Buy: Anywhere sodas are sold.
Hot Sauce
If, like me, you’re a fan of hot sauces, then bring back a bottle or two of hot sauce. The sauces feature many herbs and spices. These hot sauces are not as hot as others you may find on other islands but they’re uniquely flavorful and worth sharing!
Where to Buy: Many shops in Royal Dockyard, grocery stores, and at the airport.
Tea Towels
This tradition has survived from its days as a British Colony. Bermuda’s tea towels are not only pretty but useful. Pick a tea towel depicting the island’s highlights, the flag, and so many more. Who couldn’t use a reminder in their kitchen of their Bermuda trip?
Where to Buy: Many souvenir shops, including at the Royal Naval Dockyard.
Cedar Items
When families and sailors would end up on Bermuda on their way to the new world, they sometimes got stranded on the island. These hearty souls used the natural cedar from the local trees to craft all sorts of items. The enduring quality continues today and cedar is an important symbol as it is often planted as a wedding tradition. Pick something useful, like a beautiful cedar pen.
Where to Buy: Bermuda Craft Market through the Cooperage Building at the Royal Naval Dockyard.
Lili Bermuda Perfume
It may seem strange to include perfume on a list of souvenirs but Bermuda is home to Lili Bermuda Perfumery. If you visit the perfumery, take advantage of the complimentary tour. Make it a memorable visit by enjoying afternoon tea in their gardens. If you have time, you can even create your own signature scent!
Where to Buy: You can find them in the National Museum of Bermuda shop at the Dockyard but the original store is on Queen Street in St. George’s.
Clay and Ceramics
Bermuda is home to several artists who work with clay and ceramics. These artists make everything from tableware to pieces of art. They make a fabulous memento of your island visit.
Where to Buy: Bermuda Clayworks at the Royal Dockyard as well as other souvenir shops throughout the island.
Catch-all Souvenirs
I can’t close out a souvenir list without including a catch-all category. What does that mean? These are your fridge magnets, bottle openers, snow globes, coffee cups, shot glasses, souvenir spoons, or whatever other item you collect.
If you (or a friend or family member) have a growing collection of souvenir items, you’re sure to be able to add to them with a Bermuda treasure.
Where to Buy: Souvenir shops can be found all over the island, especially in Hamilton.
Final Thoughts on the Best Bermuda Souvenirs
I love souvenirs, and I’m not the only one. What I like about souvenirs is that they remind me of the fantastic time that I had discovering a new place. Bermuda was my 61st country visited, so while my souvenirs may have gotten smaller or more functional, they’re still an important part of my travels.
