Charlotte Fire Department – Station 4

In a building where brave firefighters were ready to answer the call of duty, an unexpected story surfaces. Charlotte Fire Station number 4, a place of courage and emergency response, carries within its walls a whispered story of unexplained occurrences that have left even the bravest souls with a lingering chill.

In 1934, while responding to a call, firefighter Black fell and died while trying to slide down the pole. Black used to smoke cigars while around the station. The fire station closed in 1972 and thirty years later became the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Fire Museum. Museum workers claimed to smell Black’s cigar smoke from time to time.

Elevate at Tryon/Tryon House Apartments

While frequently changing names, the apartment building at Tryon has a storied history.

In 1940, a boiler explosion damaged the building. Five residents died, and nine were injured in the incident.

Local legend has it that ghosts in the building are not shy about disturbing the residents. There is a constant churning of tenants who cannot adapt to the knocking on doors and opening of cabinets.

These ghosts clearly have unfinished business!

The Dunhill Hotel

The Dunhill Hotel exudes historic elegance, with a heritage dating back to the roaring 1920s. Aside from its timeless appeal and luxury amenities, this hotel has a secret—a ghostly charm that has piqued the interest of visitors looking for an immersive stay with a touch of the uncanny.

As you step into the lobby of this historic hotel, adorned with classic furniture and antique charms, you’re not simply entering a hotel; you’re entering a place where the past and present may cross. The Dunhill Hotel has a long history of ghostly legends, with stories of unexplained events and spirit sightings adding to the fascination.

As one of the tallest buildings of its time, during the Great Depression, businessmen who lost their fortunes would jump off the roof. The ninth floor, the highest floor, has the most reported paranormal activity.

The building fell into disrepair. While refurbishing the building in 1988, human remains were found in the elevator shaft. This discovery added to the lore of the historic hotel’s hauntings.

Embrace the haunted charm of this historic accommodation, where whispers from another era may accompany each creak of the floorboards and every flicker of the vintage-inspired lighting.

Its location in uptown Charlotte made it a perfect starting point for discovering Charlotte’s haunted places. I booked myself into one of the guest rooms at this haunted hotel —a choice that promised more than just a comfortable night’s sleep! But I woke up refreshed and ready to explore Charlotte anew.

Connolly’s On Fifth has earned a reputation as one of the most haunted buildings in Charlotte. Tales of unexplained occurrences and ghostly sightings add an extra layer of intrigue to its lively atmosphere. Step into a space where the echoes of the past may interact with the laughter and chatter of the present.

Pull up a stool at the bar or find a cozy corner to enjoy your favorite drink. But keep your senses alert, for you might just sense a spectral presence in the ambient warmth. Founders Hall

Once a medical school, this building is haunted by a child named Louisa. The story goes that medical students were desperate for a body, so they broke into a cemetery and stole the body of a little girl. The building is now a shopping center, but workers report seeing a little girl ghost wandering. This was the creepiest tale, in my opinion.

Tryon Plaza

One of the hottest spots for going out in Charlotte is also one of the most haunted. At the intersection of N. Tryon and Trade Streets is the center of the civil war deaths in uptown. This makes sense as this was the location of the Battle of Charlotte in 1780.

Visitors in the area late at night have reported hearing moans of wounded soldiers.
