Don’t forget to bring home some souvenirs from your visit to Bratislava! Here are the best souvenirs from Slovakia (for yourself or your friends and family):

One item you’ll repeatedly find on this list is alcohol. Please keep in mind any limits imposed by your country on how much alcohol you can bring with you. Also, don’t forget that any alcohol will need to be placed in checked luggage since it exceeds the allowable liquids to be transported in a carry-on.

1. Slovakian Wine

Slovakia is a wine-producing nation. With over 400 wineries spread over six wine-growing regions, the variety you’ll find is sure to please just about every palate. The southern Slovakian region produces black grape varieties, but you’ll be able to find many others from other areas.

Slovakia is best known for its cross-varieties, which became necessary when traditional vines did not flourish in the region. This means that you’ll find wines unique to this region. So if you’re a fan of sweeter wines, this is the place for you! Bring home a bottle (or two) of wine as a souvenir from Slovakia that you can then share (or not!) with friends back home.

2. Slivovica

While we’re on the subject of alcohol, let’s continue with Slivovica. This fruit brandy is traditionally made from Damson plums, though other fruit flavors may be added. This potent drink is best served cold in a shot glass. (Think eau-de-vie for those familiar with that type of fermentation.) But make sure you’re not too far from home! It is a great way to impress your dining companions back home.

3. Medovina

Another alcohol option on this list is medovina — a mead made from local honey. The brand you’re most likely to find is Apimed. Purchase medovina in a grocery store rather than a souvenir store for the best pricing. This honey wine serves as an excellent option for those who don’t care for regular wine. Just remember that the alcohol content for this product is higher than wine (and it is easy to drink a lot!).

4. Slovakian Honey

I never knew so many different types of honey existed until I traveled to Slovakia! Depending on the wildflowers found in the surrounding areas, the honey will taste slightly different. You can even find cream honey, created by slowly mixing in crystallized honey. Honey makes a cute gift for your friends back home, though again, consider whether this is a product that you’ll be able to take home. Honey is an excellent souvenir from Slovakia because it is suitable for most people.

5. Horalky

If you’re looking for an easy-to-carry treat, stop at a grocery shop and purchase some Horalky. I often bring typical local snacks for my sons when I travel. Horalky is made from a wafer cookie and is typically filled with peanut butter. Due to their packaging and light weight, they’re a favorite for snacks and super easy to bring home.

6. Corn husk dolls

Made of dry corn husks, these dolls became a souvenir in the 1950s. They’re cute, lightweight, and one of the most easily transported souvenirs from Slovakia. You’ll find these corn husk dolls in every souvenir shop in town.

7. Decorated Easter Eggs

One of the most delicate souvenirs from Slovakia is the decorated Easter egg. Easter is a big holiday in Slovakia, and these decorated eggs can be found year-round. Eggshells here are waxed, painted, etched, or even decorated by patiently gluing pieces of straw to create a pattern. Shop around as you’ll see a wide range of prices for similar articles, depending on the intricacy of the design. Make sure you ask them to put the egg in a container and bubble wrap for the best chances of survival by the time you get home.

8. Embroidered Items

Slovakia is known for its embroidery. Whether you select something that can serve as home decor, such as napkins or placemats, or something to wear, such as an embroidered shirt, there are many differences in quality and color. Whether you choose something more feminine, like an embroidered bag, or more unisex, like a Bratislava embroidered t-shirt, you’ll have lots of options to take home.

We weren’t finished with alcoholic drinks just yet! But, don’t be misled by the name; this 52% proof tea is not for everybody. This tea-based herbal liqueur comes in 11 flavors. Plus, the packaging is cute.

10. Slovakian Glass (or ceramic) items

Delicate glass items can be found in every souvenir shop in Slovakia. Whether you’re looking for a snowglobe, a plate, a glass, or a dish, you’re sure to find them easily. Many stores also sell other glass-made items, such as these beautiful flowers and fruit that you can use to create your own little flower pot.

11. Bratislava (or Slovakia) anything

Many of us collect specific items with a city or country name when we visit. Whether you choose to bring home a fridge magnet, a spoon (which my mom collects), a thimble (which my aunt collects), or shot glass or pen, there is something small and affordable for everyone on your list. What do you collect?

If you’re visiting the Old City of Bratislava, you’ll be tripping over souvenir shops at every corner, so make sure you compare prices before you settle on your favorite souvenir from Slovakia! Slovakia souvenir shops on small side streets offered better deals than those located on popular plazas.

Have a fabulous time on your trip!

Happy travels!
